Update My Voter Registration

PLEASE NOTE: Changing the information on your driver’s license/identification card with the DMV or updating your address with the Post Office may not automatically update your voter registration.

Depending on the change you wish to make, you should complete a new Voter Registration Card to re-register to vote or may simply complete a Voter Action Request Form. 

You must submit a new Voter Registration Card to re-register to vote if... 

• If you are registering to vote for the first time 

• If you are changing your legal name for any reason 

• To change your political party 15 days before an election 

Use the California Online Voter Registration System 

You can register to vote online or complete a paper Voter Registration Card.  View the Registrar of Voters one page guide on Completing and Returning Voter Registration Forms to learn more. 

Voter Registration Cards must be returned in person or by mail. It cannot be faxed or e-mailed.  

You can return your completed Voter Registration Card to:

You can update your registration by Voter Action Request Form if…. 

If you are already registered to vote in Santa Clara County, rather than completing a new Voter Registration Card, you can fill out a Voter Action Request Form if you want to… 

• Change your residence address or add or change a mailing address 

• Request or change your language preference (English, Chinese, Gujarati, Hindi, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Nepali, Punjabi, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil, Telegu and Vietnamese) 

• Correct misspellings or other errors in your registration information 

• Cancel your voter registration 

• Cancel the voter registration of a deceased member of your family or household 

• Opt out of receiving County Voter Information Guides by mail
